Training of Trainers workshop
From June 4-13, 2015, ISLP Human Rights Program Director Heather Eisenlord and JCAP members Shin Imai (lawyer), Bernadette Maheandiran (lawyer), and Leah Gardner (research assistant) travelled to Kenya.  The primary purpose of the trip was to hold two consecutive, two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) workshops at A.I.C. Cheptebo, in the Kerio Valley. These workshops  took place from June 8-11, 2015.
The workshops provided information and training to approximately 100 representatives, including 15 women, from strategic locations and sub-locations within Baringo and Elgeyo-Marakwet counties. Participants learned about the basics of oil exploration and production, the possible adverse effects and benefits, and their rights under Kenyan law, including the right to consultation. They also practised workshop facilitation and basic negotiation skills.  Groups from different regions established action plans for organizing and presenting their own one-hour information sessions to share what they had learned. Participants appreciated the workshops, commenting that the materials were relevant and presented in an engaging manner.
